They have the same date now, but I have always bought my plans from Walmart's web site.

My brother went to try to find one of these devices, and all the Sioux City Walmarts have sent back all of their 5G Home Internet devices a week ago since they can not get them activated. I know about a month ago, lots of qualifying addresses was finally popping up finally since Verizon is finally activating C-band 5G up there.

Verizon is funny about where they provide Home Internet. Not sure if it depends on which 5G technology is being used. Surprised my area is still available for activation after a number of months, even though most of it is 5G NR or only 4G LTE. Not sure if we even have C-band here.

It is determined not so much the tech available at the towers

but by their determination of how much surplus service bandwidth is "going to waste" on a given tower or neighborhood

i.e. underutilised by normal phone users

and how long that situation is likely to last.

The @Home service then will allow them to make some level of incremental profit while waiting for normal phone usage to grow there

and also as a PR exercise for politics and the regulators, showing they are "helping" get broadband competition out in the non-urban areas.

Our rural areas have a signal problem the carriers will not want to rectify. No growth area that would need to have more and bigger towers. Way too many large hills and trees. That's why I was surprised a friend was able to activate Home Internet, although it seems to be 4G LTE.

From what I have seen myself in my area so far, you need to have C-band 5G at least. Nationwide 5G is not enough.

Verizon has a number slots of available per tower sites for 5G Home Internet.

I know if you use Visible's Coverage Maps, you can disable mmWave and C-band 5G.

Again, they allow activations based on whether the tower has excess capacity to offer, regardless of any specific RF tech has been rolled out or not.

Whether it actually is going to be usable / useful for the customer is not really something they can know or even care about

if not then the customer can return the router and get a refund.

Agree, the type of service available does not seem to matter as long as the tower is not overloaded. Many are able to activate on 4G LTE with both Verizon or Straight Talk.

You should know if the service is available where you are before you can get the device. As far as returns, not sure with either Verizon or Straight Talk/Walmart. Lack of customer service support with both of them.
