I'd like to try the T-Mobile network pass offer where I can get unlimited data on the esim while still maintaining my existing tracfone phone number on a physical sim.
I have a refurb iphone se 2020 but it hasn't been unlocked yet or been on the network long enough to be unlocked. Is unlocking for the physical sim or esim or both? Wondering if I can do this.
Also what was the finding about unlocking, does it start when you activate or when you add it to the account?

TracFone locked phones I believe are locked to TracFone.. any TracFone operated network but TracFone.
My experience is esim remains locked with the phone till 60 days from activation.
Edited to add:
It *DOES* work on iPhone SE2020! Thank you, capri17!!
Leaving original, below, so thread makes sense.
(IPhone SE 2020 isn’t eligible for the network pass, TMobile requires the phone be 5G, the SE 2020 is 4G.)

The SE 2020 is not on T-Mobile's list, but the IP 11 is:
Compatible devices
Apple
iPhone XS, XS Max
iPhone 11, 11 Pro
iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
iPhone SE (2022)

That's great you got the SE 2020 to work
Interesting! Do you remember when yours started?
TM told me that as of the release of iPhone 14, the SE 2020 was not eligible, and they couldn’t make it work. They suggested I use the Mint Mobile 7 day trial to check coverage. (I only get Verizon coverage through WiFi calling in my house, I’m curious about TM.)
The Network Pass has expanded over time. It was just iPhone devices for a while, and probably more limited ones. They added Samsung and Google devices relatively recently. Been using it on a ZFold4 for 2 months now.
Sorry for going slightly off topic here, but I would like my daughter to try the T-Mobile Network Pass. She currently has a Dent e-sim, so I assume she would have to delete that first. If later she wants to switch back to Dent, will she still be able to access the Dent data she has accumulated?
You can have multiple esims. Just leave the Dent one there and switch back when done.
T-Mobile’s eSIM app supports any T-Mobile or unlocked iPhone XS, XS Max or XR with iOS 12.1.1 or later. To download the T-Mobile eSIM app on iOS, go here.

The T-Mobile Network Pass list of compatible devices doesn't include iPhone 14?
Looks like not yet....

Network pass is mentioned on their iPhone 14 page as part of T-mobile's offerings..
