Switch from VZ Prepaid to an ATT MVNO?

So I've been on Verizon Prepaid for a number of years. 5GB $25 plan (autopay, etc). Using an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S22+.

There is a canyon near my house that I travel frequently, that hasn't had service for years. AT&T must have put a new tower there, so now there is service with AT&T (or that's what people tell me). Verizon still doesn't. It's about a 4 mile stretch, which isn't a big deal, but its on the main highway I-70, here. So you have to think about it every time you make a call.

Think there is any chance VZ will use the AT&T tower and add service there?

If not, I was thinking about an AT&T MVNO or AT&T Prepaid. I've never had or used AT&T.

Seems like the best deal now, is if I can get on the BoostMobile $25 unlimited plan (Is this AT&T?), or Cricket?
Any others? I really want 5gb plan, at least.

Also, for Boost and others, can I sign up with a new number and then port my number later, if I like it?

If you have an unlocked phone, you can look at ebay Red pocket 1-3 month ATT plan to test.

Or, get the free ATT plan from Freedompop, and add minutes to the plan, since it only comes with 10.
    Might be the cheaper route.

Of course this is just for testing the network, so DONT PORT IN.

Looks like Red Pocket and Freedompop use 4g only. Someone told me the area that has new service requires 5g.

Is your Samsung Galaxy S22+ model number on the ATT approved list?
How's ATT vs VZW at the majority of places you go?
You say "service with AT&T (or that's what people tell me)"; be sure of that first.

I paid $13 for a red pocket plan/sim. I'll try it for a month and see how it is. Thanks all.

If it works ok...Is Red Pocket the way to go these days? I used them a few years ago and had nothing but trouble with them on VZ network. or what MVNO is decent these days for 5GB data or more, at a decent price, with the least amount of throttling?

Red pocket has 5g. I've had NSA 5g on Redpocket CDMA-V since last year.

Things change and evolve with regards to cell service. What was true several years ago might not be true today. Last year, Red pocket was dealing with AT&T whitelist issues and 2g/3g sunset, this year the CDMA 3g shutdown seems to be giving them issues. I heard some generic blurb in the news that T-mobile 5g service has surpassed Verizon.

If you decide to go to ATT, might want to check out their prepaid, the 300 paid up front is pretty popular.
And if you have a target card, get the prepaid cards when they have the 5 off of 50.

    Which would be 42.75, 256.50 Vs 300.00

Received the Red Pocket sim for gsma (att). Activated fine on my Galaxy s22+. Speed is about half of Verizon prepaid where I live. 100/7, vs 200/20 on VZ. This is with just a couple of tests using Okta to the same endpoint.

Need to test nearby in a location where VZ 5g doesn't work well for me. I've had to switch to 4g. Also need to see if the location without service has it, with Att/red Pocket.

Ok. Travelled up to the area that had no service with VZ. Works with ATT. Going to try one other place. On the fence about switching. Anyone have any experience with ATT prepaid vs Boost. Seems like the both have plans that are $25/month.

    Or Red Pocket?

AT&T prepaid is QCI 8. Boost is QCI 9 (Lower is better)

I switched from Red Pocket GSMA which is also QCI 9 to AT&T prepaid and can't really tell any difference in normal day-to-day use.

Of the 3 mentioned I'd go with AT&T prepaid.
Visible (by Verizon) receive $20 off the first month. Please use referral code: 36csHv - https://www.visible.com/get/?36csHv

I will be Judged on how I helped the poor, sick & others in need; strangers & loved ones alike.

    My plans:
    Visible (Verizon) UTTD $25/mo
    T-Mobile Gold Rewards $10yr exp 12.25.23
    FreedomPop (AT&T) Target $4.99 once 100 TTD a month each 29th

ok.. Also I'm almost out of data after about 4 hours of use. Argh... I guess 500mb goes fast when you run 2 Ookla mobile speed tests. I'm going to try one other place this weekend.
