    Is balances/benefits transfers being banned?

It appears that TF is going to ban merging or transferring balances/benefits from lines used to earn reward points.

Here's a chat transcript when I try to do a balances transfer today:

Tracfone: Thank you for visiting Tracfone today. How may I help you?
Agent: Thank you for visiting TracFone Wireless.
    Agent: Hi Customer.
Agent: How may I assist you?
    Me: Hello, Agent
Please transfer the balances of line xxx-xxx-1234 to line xxx-xxx-5678. I'm closing line xxx-xxx-1234.
    Agent: I understand.
Agent: I sent a six-digit text message to your phone. I need the code.
    Me: 000000
    Agent: One moment.
Agent: The system shows you earned points for adding this line so the transfer can't be done. If you wish to transfer the balance, I'll remove the points you earned for adding this line.
Me: No keep it as it is. Don't make any changes.
Agent: This will be provided as a one-time courtesy. If you attempt to do this again in the future with these lines or other lines, we'll deactivate the service on the phones and you'll lose any unused service.
    Me: okay
Agent: Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
    Me: No
Agent: Thank you for chatting with TracFone Wireless.
Agent: Thank you for chatting with us today.
The agent has left this conversation. For further questions, please start a new chat.

Maybe too many people doing too many at once has raised a red flag. I mean they couldn’t have made money off people buying $20 phones and then cashing points in for $300 phones.

I wonder if all points were spent first what would happen when trying to transfer/combine? (Ie would it go through with no problem because no points to lose?)

If they spent half as much time on training and hiring competent staff as they do on strategizing how to screw customers maybe they wouldn't be going in reverse...I suppose Verizon's ultimate strategy is to kill TracFone altogether... It's working.

Dang! I have one more line to combine into the main line my dad uses, but I won't be able to do that for another 30+ days.

Maybe the Chat rep was just being over-zealous? The "one-time courtesy" part sounds like the rep gets kicks out of scaring customers?

Yes, we need more data points from other users. Probably, the agent I chatted with, first thing in the morning, was riffing

yah need more data points, I was told by a agent the system won't allow him to add inactive lines to a account yesterday, I just said ok thank you have a nice day, relogged in and the next agent did it no problem, hmm I thought it strange he said the system won't allow it , I hope its a rouge agent who says the system won't allow him to do things every time he doesn't know how to do it..

it was a agents name I hadn't seen before grr don't remember it ..

this sounds pretty specific though, so what you have to spend all your reward points in a account before doing a merge or transfer?
    grr guess will see doh!

that will affect lots of us if that in fact is the policy they will enforce.

Well, if this is true and not just a rogue CS rep, then this is very bad. The rewards program is rapidly deteriorating.

No, this used to happen all the time, my theory is because combines can be tricky, so noob reps who are afraid to screw them up pretend the system doesn't allow them.

Just disconnect and go back in the chat queue.

I've actually had a much easier time lately, done a few dozen in recent weeks.

I just did a merge/combine about two hours ago. The first rep I tried told me they don't do that anymore.

Second rep ("Dawncy") said no problem.

The service time transferred right away but the bucket units took about 2 hours or so.

After an hour I did a second chat and got rep to tell me what the buckets should be and also got a reference number.

Rep assured me it would take no longer than 4 hours to update due to a delay in the system.

An hour or so later it showed correctly.

Did you recently earn AAL points with either or both phones? Do you still have all your point?

They both got AAL points in the past - more than a month ago. I got more phones with the points.

But this hasn't happened: "The system shows you earned points for adding this line so the transfer can't be done. If you wish to transfer the balance, I'll remove the points you earned for adding this line.

    Nope.

Rep didn't even say anything like that. Just "thank you" and "have a good day".
