Why sometimes I have to reboot phone to get data?

    I use redpocket prepaid.
Normally my phone would show LTE on the signal strength meter. Once in a while, it shows an exclamation mark and I would have no data. Then I have to reboot my phone and the exclamation mark would go away and I can use data again.

Any idea why this happens? Is it a phone problem (oneplus 5T), a configuration problem (wrong APN?), or redpocket problem?

I can't say for certain, but turning the phone off and back on clears up many issues. A primary reason is that it forces the phone to reconnect to local tower/network. It may be trying to login to a different tower that may be out of range. Too premature to assume there is a problem with the phone. How old is the SIM that is in your phone (same as when you bought the phone or recently changed)?

my experience is i sometimes have similar issues on certain network's in certain areas. in my case i have never determined it to be a defective phone problem except maybe an newer phone with additional bands or better radio may not have the issue.

often toggling airplane mode on and off will have same effect as rebooting and may be much faster

which network version of redpocket are you on ?

the market i live in GSMT(T-Mobile) would have pretty spotty service on a device the age of the Oneplus 5T, a newer 5G device really makes a big difference here on T-Mobile, not only for speed but for reliability. AT&T and Verizon on the other hand work well even on oder phones on LTE

Without another known good working device to cross check on, it's probably not going to be easy to diagnose this problem. A newer phone might be in Your future as phone radios do go bad and phones general are not meant to last forever no matter how well you care for it. Carriers obsoleting 2g and 3g only make it worse.

An example, in NYC they do have signal even underground in the subways, between stations. But an older phone that I have might time out it's connection or lose its ability to make and receive calls after a trip under the city. To fix, a reboot or a toggle of the airplane mode might be necessary. It's probably its power save function kicking in but since there are no updates for the os, it's doubtful that there will ever be a fix. My newer phone does not have this issue as bad.
