Correcting wrong Zip Code on Account Page Forces New Phone Number?

The wrong zip code is listed on the Device Page of my online account. You can't correct it yourself right there-- it says you have to contact TF which I did via chat.

The CSR said she could change the zip code to the correct one-- but that my phone number would change as well. So I told her to just leave it alone.

That makes no sense to me. Did she tell me right?

From what I can tell you have to have a number associated with your zip code. Don't tell them you moved to another location unless you want a new number.

Haven't moved. Been at my current address for 40+ years, been a TF customer for about 10, no idea how long the wrong zip code has been listed on my account...

Is it a Miami Zip Code? If you didn't enter a zip code when creating the account, TF put the Miami zip code in it.

I think the whole premise of having a number associated with your zip code sucks! I mean if you relocate, the big carriers allow you to port it without issue. I do not see why you cannot simply change your zip code the same! I moved nearly seven years ago, and asked the same question, I received the same result you will get a new number. I have had this number for 19 years! In the annals of mobile numbers, that is a hell of a long time! I am going to retest the waters and see if I can maybe get a different person on chat that may be more understanding, and accommodating.

If this was me, I would just leave it alone. TF creates too many problems even with simple things. I wouldn't want to give them a chance to mess things up just to have the right zip code listed in my account.

This ZIP code issue is an issue with a number of account and even other Tracfone brands. I know my Straight Talk account has the same issue, but I can not fix it without changing my number too.

Not sure why they can not fix it without changing the phone number.

The zip code "where you usually use your phone" has nothing to do with billing or shipping address used for any specific transaction.

    Just leave it alone

Yea, I have left mine alone. It is just weird to see 33178 on my account with my 712 area code phone number.

33178 is Miami zip code. To prevent it from being put there in the first place, enter your own zip code when creating an account. If you don't, after a while TF puts 33178 in there.

I have the same issue - a zip code that is in the same city, but one where I’ve never had an address- it’s close but no cigar ! A mystery.

It does present a challenge if you decide to port out - but maybe not a big challenge.

I know I setup my account with the correct ZIP code or one near me when I started my Straight Talk account because my area was very picky with ZIP codes originally.

One ZIP code would not give you Verizon based activation, and another would let you do only AT&T based activation. I believe it was something with the Alltel buyout because when I had Net10, I did not have issues. I believe that this pickiness was corrected in 2013 because AT&T bought a small rural cell carrier in my area because the old way to check what tower carrier that you have from when you bought phones changed about then for my area too.

Plus I remember getting "Thank you" mailers from Straight Talk after activating my phones.

Just remember to use the Miami zip for port out. I had to do this when I moved my daughter's line to US Mobile. It failed based on her billing zip, but I was able to resubmit with the Miami zip. Her account definitely had the correct zip when she started at Tracfone but switched sometime during device transfers and changing SIMs.
