    AT&T sim

So i found a AT&T sim card going thru some junk boxes, this card has to be 10+ years old.

I activated it, keeping my number from a Verizon sim, keeping all my buckets.

Anybody see 5g on the AT&T cards.
All i see is LTE, as of now.

Does it have "27"(or higher) in the 9th and 10th positions of the SIM number? According to AT&T site (under SIM card Compatibility), that's needed in order to have HD Voice.

Due to the age of the SIM, it is not surprising as 5G did not exist in the US 10 years ago. LTE was technically 3G+ and not true 4G. LTE is used for data service only and not used for voice (VOLTE).
    Just another day in paradise.....

I know AT&T is kind of stingy on their 5g, didn’t they just recently offer to their prepaid, not sure about the MVNO’s, thats why i asked if any one on Trac has seen it.

Keep in mind just because there's 5G in your area doesn't mean you'll see it. If LTE capacity is doing just fine a phone won't necessarily grab 5G just because it's there. Some phones you can set to 5G SA (stand alone), most are NSA (non stand alone) sharing LTE.

So, what's the point of having a 5G phone when the phone will use LTE if LTE is good enough? Shouldn't it try to use the latest technology first then step down if that isn't available?

If the OP doesn't have a 5G phone, no matter what SIM they are using, won't get 5G service. As I pointed out, a 10-year-old SIM is likely not compatible with 5G either as the technology didn't exist back then. We don't even know what make/model phone the OP is using.

Actually just going by what I tried to understand up in the Verizon forum and some personal experience. ATT may be different in how it's all handled. What was mentioned when I asked the same question was it's not up to the phone it's up to what the network determines somehow. I honestly don't understand all the technical things involved. It's mentioned that all 5G (even c-band), with the exception of mmwave I believe, uses the LTE core.

I use Network Cell Info Lite. I live in a rural area that has 5G but mostly all I see is 4G/LTE. When I see 5G it's NSA band n66. Sometimes I see 4G+ which I assume is mixing the 4G and 5G ?? (is that behind the scenes tech stuff about aggregation??)
But if I go to a near by city all I mostly see is 5G NSA band n66. Even though there's supposedly c-band there I never see n77. There are even some pockets that drop to LTE.

I agree with you, I bought a 5G phone expecting that since there is 5G here that's what I'd mostly see with maybe an occasional drop to LTE. I think, at least Verizon, is still getting things working between the 2 in some areas, especially if there are capacity issues which Verizon is way behind the curve on in many none urban areas.

Hopefully someone here can better explain it with minimal spectrum, frequency, mimo and aggregation terms the Verizon forum is full of that are beyond my pay grade.

I'd ask for clarification in the Verizon forums but there are several members there not to tolerant of questions and comments from people below their superior pay grade.

Yes. I recently had a TracFone-AT&T SIM in 2 different 5G phones and it did show 5G.

I have a TracFone ATT SIM in my Flip 4 and I get 5G service per the icon on the screen. I think this is the 'real' 5G rather than the fake 5Ge that ATT (ie 4G) that it used to show.
