If you can’t beat ‘em, buy em.

I guess they wanted a lower market prepaid brand after selling off boost.

I don't think T-Mobile ever owned Boost. Boost was required to be divested before the Spirnt/T-Mobile merger could be finalized.

Mint was actually created by Ultra Mobile and then spun off, at which point Ryan Reynolds acquired a stake in Mint.

Since Mint is an MVNO I take it it’s 3 million customers are already counted in T-Mobile’s total subscriber counts?

I thought their reports used to split out branded prepaid quantities from total prepaid quantities. I skimmed over their investor reports now to try to find customer counts by category and all I could find was data about how many in each category were added during the quarter but I couldn't find total numbers.

It looks like the spinoff was incomplete, inasmuch as T-Mobile is acquiring Ultra too. If they were theoretically separate, they aren't now.

The Ultra / Mint relationship after the "spinoff" was definitely confusing. Mint for sure continued to use Ultra's backend systems.
