SYNC Moto G Pure to another Moto G Pure as backup phone

    Hi ,

I am getting another Moto G Pure free this week from Tmobile , and would like to clone my primary Moto G pure .

I would like to Sync them so I have 2 phones with the same information , photos, apps . texts etc then I will leave the new one without a sim and hopefully let it keep SYNCing daily over WIFI or maybe Bluetooth.

I am just afraid of losing my primary phone ( old guy problem ) and losing information ,

How would I do this ?

    Thanks for your help
Wanted: old barnfind VWs , Old Porsche projects and Sports cars ,
save them from the crusher , I have had my tetanus shots so rust does not scare me ,
    anything considered even parts cars

It used to be that Motorola it's own app to transfer between Motorola phones. However, it appears the Motorola Migrate app was discontinued.

Someone asked the question in this Reddit thread a few months ago and was just advised to transfer information using his Google account which seemed to work for him:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/motorola/co..._old_motorola/

As far as keeping a Sync going daily between Wifi and Bluetooth, I don't really think there is software around to do that. Most transfer software is for a one time clone when you get a new device.

In your case, my suggestion would be to transfer the data from your old device to your new free device, either via Google account or some third party software that you can find on the web when searching for transfer between Motorola phones. Then if you're concerned about losing information, just keep the old phone handy so if you find something that didn't transfer you can look it up in the old phone.

Yes in the Android world this is just not possible if you are talking "sync'ing" changes to non-cloud stored data from either device on a whole-device basis.

From a Working device to a Backup device, only changes on the former copied to the latter, relatively easily done for technical sorts, but some data stores may require rooting both devices.

The way Google designed things, you use apps that sync their datastores via the cloud.

I use dozens of Android devices on a daily basis, and nearly everything I do is automatically sync'ed from any to all without my needing to think about it, not only Android but between my Windows and Apple devices, sometimes even including Linux.

What specific sort of data file types are you concerned about with your question? Not counting the ones Google automatically sync's for you...

Yes that became redundant, once Android included that functionality as standard when setting up a new device.

    Thanks for your ideas....

I guess I need the app list , photos , phone call list , Texts send and received , music and videos , not sure there is anything else.....

It would be nice to have the info inside the apps like the To-Do list etc

Can all this be done with Google ? or most of it

    Cheers

On your existing phone search the settings for Backup. I have a different brand of phone, but in my settings, I see Google Drive back up data.

When you select that, it gives the information on what is backed up to my Google Drive account via the gmail address, I use on that device. It lists Apps, Photos & Videos, SMS & MMS messages, Call history, device settings, and Google account data which includes, contacts, Calendar, Tasks, etc.

That should cover most of what you wanted. Make sure you've got the backup turned on and that everything is backed up. Then when you do the activation process on your new device, it should move all of that from the Google Drive account to your new phone.

Here's a link to the support page that provides some more information.

To use any Google cloud-based storage (G Drive), you’ve got to affiliate the phones (both) with a Google account (your own, usually beginning with getting a Gmail account). Most people who aren’t Google-phobes do this first thing with any device they get, if they’re intending to use Google services (and know about them). Store your contacts in Google Contacts, photos in Photos. I’ve never used the Backup feature (I’ll have to read up on that), but do sync those previously mentioned items (and a few other things).
