Depending on the plan you have those local WiFi calls could end up costing you $3/min. Much better to use Google Voice or some other method.
Here are some tips for international roamers.

Hey all
Jut looking to if anyone can tell me how to use Wi-FI calling. I will be in Australia for few days next month and will need to call and confirm a couple of guided tours. Hoping to be on the phone for less than 5 minutes each time and thought I could use the hotel's wi-fi or the airport's wi-fi to able to call the tour company, but am unfamiliar with using this feature. Another option is to use international roaming on T-Mobile for $0.25 a minute, but if something happens and I on the phone for more than a few minutes it this could add up fast.
Thanks

See if an Aussie mate can just hook you up with a cheap no-contract local SIM to hand you on arrival
Wi-Fi calling back to North America is free, but Wi-Fi calling to Australia is the same 25 cents a minute as roaming call via cell roaming.
Even if you use 20 minutes @ 25 cents per minute, that’s $5. I’d just make the calls and not worry about it. If you might need more than that, consider the $5 day passes as those are 24-hour passes so you could theoretically use one pass from afternoon to afternoon (e.g., 3:00 PM - 2:59PM the following day)
You should be able to go into your phone settings and turn on Wifi calling. You can test it by connecting to your home wifi and make calls. These days it's pretty easy to setup and activate. You connect your phone to a wifi network like you normally would. Then there is usually a setting for the phone to make calls via Wifi if it is on.
As someone mentioned, it's good for calling back to the United States as those calls should be in your plan. But if you're just going to make short calls, you can Australian numbers for very little money.
