    Dish Wireless Network(s)

I really haven't paid attention to the Dish Wireless service.

Can someone give me a quick rundown?

Is it an MVNO that operates on BOTH AT&T and T-Mobile towers?

What are the pros and cons of this service?

It's not exactly an MVNO in the same way that others are. It is also not like Google FI Wireless before they dropped US Cellular and lost Sprint coverage.

Dish has its own network core and is building its own 5G network, which is what Project Genesis and some Boost customers are using for some service (PG has to use a hybrid SIM setup, with a Dish eSIM for data). This is what is being referred to as the rainbow SIM.

When the user is outside of Dish coverage, it will leverage either AT&T or T-Mobile for supplemental coverage (AT&T first choice). There is no information on any other roaming partners other than these two.

Right now, only certain devices are whitelisted to work on Dish's 5G network and there is no BOYD for the Rainbow SIM (device has to be purchased direct from them in a valid market).

    Dish had 2 subsidiary companies:

Boost Mobile which uses the T Mobile network and

Boost Infinite which uses the AT&T network.

Boost Mobile has primarily switched to using AT&T last year, but it depends on location and device what they provide you as a backbone. The only places confirmed to strictly provide T-Mobile SIMs is Best Buy SIM kits for BOYD (I have heard that these are being discontinued but haven’t seen confirmation yet). Even online orders are no longer differentiated as of a couple months ago as the billing system was migrated (the old accounting/billing system only accepted legacy Sprint and T-Mobile IMSIs).

Boost Infinite has been primarily AT&T from the start, but there are unconfirmed reports that a T-Mobile backed SIM is also provided in a small number of markets.

The companies are separate, but they both rely on the same MVNE infrastructure that powers all of Dish's brands (Boost Mobile, Boost Infinite, Gen Mobile, Ting, Project Genesis, and Republic Wireless). Only the billing systems appear to be different between the two as Infinite is supposed to be postpaid.

Project Genesis is most likely to allow switching between networks in future like gFi, but years away.

Boost Infinite also, but I think less experimental

Prepaid Boost Mobile is actually ahead of Infinite with 'Rainbow SIMs' available in some markets for awhile already. Infinite is strictly MVNO on ATT or T-Mobile. Infinite is about postpaid phone financing options. It is pretty confusing though if you read tech. media articles I can see how many confuse Infinite with Rainbow SIMs, even many higher up DISH execs seem to be confused.

Boost / infinite / genesis all Dish.

Within the context of the OP anyway

I'm not interested enough yet to care about finer distinctions, will still be vapourware a year from now.
