Newbie question about moving SIM to another phone.

I bought a TCL flip phone few months ago and have unlocked it with instructions from Tracfone. Can I move the SIM to another unlocked phone for the remaining months of the 12 months the phone came with?

Better to follow the officially approved way.

Get a TF BYOP singleton SIM for a buck or two, will be VZW like your current one.

Put that in your **Unlocked VZW compatible** target phone

    in a strong signal area

also have your active Flip up and working.

Login to your MyAccount and Activate the new BYOP SIM, saying you do not want a new line/phone# and enter the number currently serviced by your flip / SIM bundle.

You will be asked to verify the code sent to the Flip.

The Flip then goes inactive, you can turn it off, keep the old SIM with it, you may need it FFR.

Reboot the new phone, maybe every 20 min or overnight, testing 1 Voice 2 SMS 3 Data is working.

Is the other unlocked phone you want to move the service to also an unlocked TracFone? If so does it run on TF-Verizon and still have its SIM?

I've been able to ask for an activation on a previously activated TracFone (by chat) if it has a TF-VZ SIM. They usually can be reactivated, but a TF-AT&T SIM can't be. I don't think a TF-T-Mobile SIM can be reactivated either.

If the unlocked phone isn't a TracFone unlocked phone, then you'll probably have to do as crawthorne said and use a new TF BYOD SIM to attempt it, if the phone is compatible with the TF Bring Your Own Device system.

I've never done a TF BYOD activation so I can't say much about it, but I think there's a compatibility checker for BYOD phones on TF's website.

Agree that transferring service to a new SIM is the safer way to activate. Things can get screwy with SIM swaps on TF/Verizon.
