So my mom uses an unlocked TF-branded iPhone XR on a different carrier. She uses her carrier's minutes. She also uses GoogleVoice to make calls, also uses Whatsapp to make calls.
In her Recent Calls tab in the phone/dialer on her iPhone XR, it lists *all* these phone calls. So in addition to the calls she made using her carrier, there's also phone calls listed in there that she made using GV, and also phone calls she made using Whatsapp, all mixed in together.
Is there any way to *stop* the phone/dialer app from doing that? She wants the phone app to list *only* the calls she made using her carrier minutes. Is there a setting for that on the iPhone?
Thank you very much for any help!
FWIW, it's the same way with my unlocked Pixel 6A on Qlink (T-mo). I made a Google Voice call using the Voice app and the call was put into the same Call Log as all the other cell calls.
It doesn't appear so. On my iphone it shows calls that I made using wifi or mobile data with "Voice Audio" in the call log as "mobile" or the city of the phone number for landlines. But it doesn't appear that Apple gives an option of just excluding the calls that were placed with Google Voice or Whatsapp.
The setting on whether the carrier is used for Google Voice calling in in the Voice application itself under Make and Receive Calls. It gives two choices Prefer Wi-Fi and mobile data or Use Carrier Only. That's what determines whether its billed by the carrier.
However, it appears that regardless of the choice in the Google Voice app, all calls show in the iPhone's calling log.
Wow, I thought it was an iPhone thing, because on my Tracfone Moto E, the Phone app only shows calls made using Tracfone, my GV app shows calls made using GV, and my Whatsapp shows calls made using Whatsapp. It is so much cleaner and simpler than the mess that shows up in Recent Calls on my mom's iPhone!
Maybe it's because of the Android version on your Pixel vs my Moto E? Mine is on Android10.
Or do you use your Qlink (TMo) minutes to call using GV? - that could explain it too.
My Pixel 6a runs Android 13. I turned on WiFi, ran the (Google) Voice app. The screen shows the call was made through Voice. The number 785-234-1591 is in my Contact List as "Billard ASOS" (Billard Airport Automated Surface Observation System). Call it if you want to hear a weather report for pilots. The call log shows the GV call and earlier cell calls on the same screen.
I did some more testing and you're correct. Here are my findings:
* I turned on Airplane mode. Turned on WiFi. Then made a call using the Voice app. A message popped up saying to turn off Airplane mode to make a call. That means my earlier Voice call was using the cell service.
* In the Voice app's Settings, there are options to "Use Carrier Only" or "Prefer WiFi and mobile data". I changed it to "Prefer WiFi and mobile data".
* Made another call using the Voice app. This time it clearly showed "Google Voice WiFi/data call".
* Now the Call Log in the Voice app only shows calls using the Voice app, and the Call Log in the Phone app only shows calls using the cell service.
I may be missing something, but isn't that how it should work? If you're using the cellular phone # to complete a GV call, it should show up in the stock dialer call log, but if you're using WiFi/mobile data only to place the GV call, it shouldn't?
If anything, the call log distinguishes where the call originated from, carrier or Google Voice.
Therefore you can originate a new call using which method you want to use from the call log.
Carrier or Google voice.
Don’t know about WhatsApp, as i don’t use it
