    A52 5g not updating to Android 13

My phone is receiving Google updates. Last Android security update was in 2022. When checking for software updates it indicates that it was interrupted. Anything that I might check or should I be looking for a new phone? The phone works great otherwise

The phone is locked to AT&T if that makes a difference. I'm currently on the AT&T annual plan

Most likely, that model phone will eventually get the update, but the newer S series will get it sooner. The A series phones are considered as a "budget phone" and get lesser priority for these types of updates. From the review that I read, the phone is capable of using Android 13, it's just that you might have to find the file on your own, unless you do get the update notice on the phone sooner.

As a note, I used to use the Samsung S21 5G phone and only got the Android 13 update last November. Currently, I use the Samsung S23 Ultra and that version was already installed. Patience is a virtue.

According to this article: https://www.androidpolice.com/when-w...get-android-13, the update is expected by August 2023. I also read that Android 13 is currently only available in Russia for the same phone model.
    Just another day in paradise.....

That article says that the update for the A52 5G was available in November 2022. That jibes with my even lesser models of A51 and A32 5G, which have been on Android 13 for many months now. The original Android 13 One UI 5.0 has even been recently updated to One UI 5.1 features.

OP - Are you connected to WiFi when you do the update check? It will only update over WiFi. It also sounds like the previous update was corrupted when interrupted. There is a way to sideload updates if you look that up, but you will have to see for yourself if that is too complicated for you.

Thanks, yes something is wrong. The last security update was June 2022. I'll have to check into the side loading. They used to have some type of Samsung support at Best Buy but I don't know if they still do or if they deal with situations like this

Just remembered I bought a square trade warranty with the phone. Not sure if it covers something like that but I'm going to find out

Yep, something is wrong. My Tracfone-branded A51 non-5G has been on Android 13 and One UI 5.1 for a few months. Android security patch level Feb 1, 2023.

If an update was interrupted, doing a phone reset should put it back to the previous completed update. Then do the software update(s) again.

Thanks Hpham, will do the reset if push comes to shove.

Square Trade said the phone is under warranty & Samsung said to take it to the local Assurion store. Will see what they can do to resolve before the reset.

UPDATE-I went to 2 Samsung authorized service centers (Asurion-UBreakIFix) & they said the phone would need to be factory reset when they did the update. (Ugh)

Did a little more research & found it was actually easy to resolve on my own using Samsung Smart Switch. Took about 1 hour to catch up on all the security updates, but the phone is finally up to date. I'm liking Android 13 so far & performance/battery life didn't seem to take a hit.

Yes and very happy I didn't have to factory reset the phone. Not sure why said so?

Yes a factory reset is a pita. I believe it's just a canned response like PC CSRs used to say "is it plugged in?" & "please reboot your computer".

I don't find it much hassle at all with Androids.

Just have one phone with all your apps and gMail accounts on it and use the built in migration process to "clone" everything over to the other ones.

Decent spare/backup devices cost less than a meal out these days

The only really annoying part is assigning custom ringtones and notification sounds.

And yes got to have that backup phone. I have found the $30 annual plan on red pocket an excellent value as it also allows direct dial international calling.

Wow, I haven't bothered with that for decades. Nearly all my communications these days is via apps, old school real-time voice calls are 95% new contacts, who later get converted to whatever other time-shifted comms medium they prefer
