How much data is really necessary to push a SMS to my phone?

I just don't get it. I hear a SMS come in, see it on the screen of my iPhone, but when I open the app it's not there yet.
I wait, wait, wait ... and eventually it appears. Of course it is immediately on the web interface.

Yes, if I turn off wifi the SMS will display, so clearly the problem is with my wifi. But how can my one-bar cell signal be more powerful than my wifi with a download speeed of 87.44 Mbps when measured on my laptop and 103 Mbps when tested with my phone? When I do a speed test from my phone with wifi turn off I have 24.8 Mbps. It doesn't make sense. Maybe I don't understand the technology.

I haven't experienced that on GV Android, except when there was some kind of temporary GV system issue.

Is that the behavior you notice always?

Yes, it always happens, but I did a test and found out that it's on my work wifi. I sent myself a SMS from my spare phone while at home and it appeared immediately. Supposedly my work wifi is faster since it's a business account. Hmmm.

If it happens only at work, maybe they have some type of firewall installed that is interfering. Are you having any trouble with making/receiving phone calls in the same location? Could be that data is being restricted by the physical construction of the office. We can only speculate at this point. The work Wi-Fi may restrict what type of data it allows.

My work Wi-Fi (at a public school) is noticeably slower than my home 75Mbps down service (at least concerning downloads), and that's because for various reasons, they decided to throttle it to a certain speed, maybe to dissuade certain people from making it their personal production network (who knows?).

The capacity of the work network, however, is vastly greater, to accommodate hundreds of users.

Also on this work network, my GV SMS texts arrive much faster to my Samsung Tab A7 Lite than to my Moto G Power 2020, usually by a minute or so. There are unknown factors at play.
