I sure hope that doesn't include existing subscribers, because I just loaded $300 in prepaid refill cards to my wife's account for her $300 plan July renewal.

While reading about the updated Max plan, I saw that the $300 yearly plan had also been updated. It no longer includes data in Canada and Mexico, but does throttle data to 1.5 Mbps after the 16 GB has been used up.
I sure hope that doesn't include existing subscribers, because I just loaded $300 in prepaid refill cards to my wife's account for her $300 plan July renewal.
https://www.att.com/buy/wireless/prepaid/plandetails shows the $300 plan is now unlimited.
Unlimited 12-month
Unlimited talk, text & high-speed data
AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy. Taxes & fees extra.
Where are you seeing the "no longer includes data in Canada and Mexico, but does throttle data to 1.5 Mbps after the 16 GB has been used up" info?
Thanks.
In my wife's online account, I currently see the following. I sure hope that doesn't change when the renewal gets processed.
Data for Smartphone: Includes 16GB of high-speed data per 30-day term. Data usage exceeding the 16 GB high-speed allowance will result in reduced data speeds of up to 128 Kbps for the rest of your 30-day term. Actual speeds vary by device capability and location. See att.com/broadbandinfo for details. High - speed data Add-Ons are available for an additional charge. If you have a capable smartphone, you can use it as a Wi-Fi hotspot to share your data with other devices.
AND
Includes unlimited nationwide calls and messaging in and between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Also includes use of the high speed data allotment from your plan while in Mexico or Canada. Data usage exceeding the high-speed allotment will result in reduced data speeds of up to 128 Kbps for the rest of your 30-day term. Also includes unlimited messaging from the U.S., Mexico, or Canada to over 230 countries. To make international long distance calls from the U.S. to countries not included in this plan To make international long distance calls from the U.S. to countries not included in this plan - click here for details. Coverage and svc. not avail. everywhere. Limited availability in select markets outside of the U.S.
See this page, and click on See Details. It says data use in the USA only. On the prepaid site for compare plan features, this plan no longer shows Canada/Mexico.
https://www.att.com/prepaid/plans/
It does indeed say "Data use is available in the U.S. only".
The other plans do allow Canadian usage, except of course the 5gb plan which doesn't work in Canada at all.
So that stinks. I hope you are grandfathered and they don't just change it Boz!

No data rollover either for new accounts
If you click on "Details" the following T&C pops up. Ok, I see they took away data.
12-month unlimited plan: Subject to change. Online only. Requires new, single line of service. Service available for 360 days upon first payment of $300. Plan renews every 30 days for 12 renewal periods. The $300 advance payment is non-refundable in whole or in part. Next service payment due at 11:59 p.m. CT on the 360th day. Not eligible for AutoPay discount or Multi-Line accounts. Data: Plan includes 16GB of high-speed data. If 16GB high-speed data allowance is used in a 30-day period, all data speeds including video are reduced to a max of 1.5Mbps for the remainder of the 30 days. Mobile hotspot use included and requires a compatible device. Data use is available in the U.S. only. See att.com/broadbandinfo for details on AT&T’s network management policies. Video streaming: Plan does not include the Video Management feature. We aim to render streaming video in standard-definition (within the 16GB allotment, max 2Mbps on 5G-capable devices or 1.5Mbps on other devices) though some video cannot be identified. Sometimes, other content that content providers bundle with streaming video may be impacted and slowed, including downloads. In certain situations, we may deliver video content faster or at higher definition. Details at att.com/VideoFeature. Unlimited talk & text: Includes unlimited talk and text within the U.S., Mexico & Canada and unlimited text from the U.S. to over 230 countries. For the list of countries available for texting from the U.S., go to att.com/prepaidintltext. 5G access: Requires a compatible device and is not available everywhere. See att.com/5Gforyou for details. Pricing, terms & other restr's subject to change and may be modified or terminated at any time without notice. GENERAL TERMS: By activating/using service, you agree to be bound by AT&T Consumer Service Agreement (att.com/ConsumerServiceAgreement). You must add money to your account within 26 days of activation, or your account will be canceled. Calls to special and premium services may be blocked. Service cannot be resold or used for fraudulent purposes. Geographic, usage, & other terms, conditions, and restrictions apply. Taxes and other charges may apply, see att.com/prepaid for details.
Roaming costs carriers more money and domestic data costs them less. The new plan is better for domestic users. Makes sense as a business move by AT&T since they have the spectrum to do it domestically so more users can be on at same time.
As for options if you need international data, look for other plans or international data addons if offered, or use international or global sim or esims. I personally believe the new plans benefit more AT&T subscribers than they hurt as well as being a way to reduce roaming costs.
One problem with the prepaid international roaming add-on is that you have to pay $35 for 7 days even if you are just taking a day trip to Canada. At least with postpaid, you can just get a Day Pass.
The new plan might seem to be better for data-heavy users, since you now can exceed 16GB and get 1.5Mbps instead of 128kbps, but you also now only get SD video. I'm also concerned that, contrary to other plans, the only mention of "mobile hotspot" is in the fine print details and not in the main list of what you get.
Has anyone's $300 plan renewed in the last week or two?
Is there any indication of whether or not current customers will remain on the plan they actually signed up for, which includes Canada / Mexico roaming?
I just saw this, and asked if the poster could provide a link to the info on Reddit, which I'll also add here, if it's provided:
For those customers still on the previous or grandfathered version of this plan, once the 12-month period is up, the next 12-month cycle payment will be made and the terms of your existing plan will remain the same. However, if you actively decide to change your plan or switch to a new plan, you will lose the rollover data features and additional data in Mexico and Canada.
Essentially, as long as your current plan is still active and renews as scheduled, you will keep the current features of your plan. However, if you switch plans in the future, you will be signing up for the features of that plan.
Let us know if this helps. If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to reach back out.
