    Thanks all for your input.
I read through this thread after I found out activation failure with Target purchased TW SE3.
Yesterday I called 1-800-867-7183 option 2, CSR was able to activate it on TF with physical SIM.
Just now I logged into TF account, clicked on 'Device', which showed SIM card number, not IMEI of SE3. It seems the CSR activated SE3 as BYOD. Guess when I call unlock department I will need to explain the story of the SE3 and its activation journey.

Don't worry about it. I just manually unlocked 2 SE3 bought all the way back from July. These 2 SE3s are exactly the same ones people bought directly from TracFone's website. I spent many hours on the phone back in July to activate them.

Only thing they will ask to unlock it is the phone number (I used the $20/90 day plan when I activated it) and the last 4 digits of the IMEI. They also did ask about some personal info like name and email address. That is about it and there is no need to justify why it is a BYOD instead of a SE3.

You just need to call the unlock CSR after 60 days and they will do this without much issues.

    Data Point:

I'd purchased a Straight Talk SE3 from Walmart that arrived August 8. That day I went on a TF chat to get the ST device "rebranded" as a TF device so that it would be unlockable 60 days after activation on TF. Chat rep reported that the "rebranding" was successful, and the initial/soon thereafter showing of the SE3 picture and the IMEI on my account web page seemingly verified that the device was being treated as a native TF phone.

For whatever reason, although the chat rep could accomplish what I would view as the more difficult task -- the rebranding -- the chat rep claimed to be unable to activate the device and scheduled a callback (which never happened). So I took a chance and tried an activation with transfer of my number and service amounts (from then-current SE2) the next day (8/9) via the website. That worked just fine.

Today, at or close to the 60 day mark, I texted "unlock" to 611611. TF replied that "it's records indicate that [I am] using [my] own device." But I went to "About" under settings and "Carrier Lock" shows "No SIM Restrictions." I also went to www.IMEICheck.com and that site reflects "Carrier: This device is UNLOCKED" and "Sim-Lock: Unlocked"

So, it appears that the unlock magic occurred, no matter what 611611 has to say. 611611 lies.

I'll go test further by trying the phone with either my FreedomPop GSMA or GSMT SIM. I expect they will work. If not I will report back...

[Edit to add: FP GSMA SIM works fine.]

611611 is not a reliable way to confirm status for iPhones. Sickw.com, or IMEICheck.com, is a better way since their info is pulled from Apple servers.

My daughter's iPhone se3 bought from tracfone direct Aug 7. I called yesterday and asked for it to be unlocked. They said it would be unlocked in 24 to 48 hours and I would receive an email. I called again today and they said same thing. I haven't received any email yet.
But I saw your post and just checked online and the IMEI shows Unlocked. I'm checking with my daughter now to see what the phone shows.

Tell her to connect her iPhone to Wifi, so its unlocked status in the phone can be updated by the Apple database.

She checked and it's unlocked. Thanks to everyone for the tips, I would still be waiting for the email otherwise.

When you check/request that an Android phone be unlocked, the TF Unlocking web site or the rep requests your email so the unlocking instructions and unlocking codes can be emailed to you (they're displayed on the screen as well if you were using the Unlocking web site). However, an iPhone is unlocked by having its status updated in an Apple database, and THERE ARE NO CODES TO KEY IN, so TF doesn't send an email.

I never got the expected email after five days, nor saw any changes in carrier lock status, even on wifi and after a few reboots, so I made a follow up call to the unlock number. They confirmed it was done.

Mine did not complete the unlocking ("Carrier Lock: No SIM restrictions" in Settings > General > About) until I shut off the phone, inserted a non-Tracfone SIM (I used an active t-mobile prepaid SIM,) restarted, connected to wifi, and let it do a quick update. I think I had to log into my iCloud account as part of that.

Mine had been activated as a Tracfone BYOP device with a new number which took two calls to corporate to accomplish. Then a third to restore my balances after they were zeroed out a week later and calls got directed to StraightTalk customer support. But no explanation needed when I called the unlock number to start that request.

Same situation. Balance were zeroed out two days after activation. Even worse call 611 throws error and text 611611 also error.
