USB Mouse With Android Phone Question

My Moto G Pure has a sluggish touch response particularly on Google Drive & Docs when attempting to resize fonts. I tap and tap and it won't resize unless I wet my fingertip or use a stylus. My other phones don't have this problem.

I've tried other keypads and it's the same. Yandex, Gboard, etc.

I do know some people use a computer mouse (wired or wireless) with a cellphone. I just don't know if this will fix my problem.

Whether or not it's wireless it still requires USB OTG compatibility because that's where the corded mouse plugs in OR the dongle adapter plugs in.

Does anyone know if the mouse might be compatible with Google Docs and would I still have to touch the screen to resize, or would the mouse be able to do it?

I've seen Google Play apps that turn a cellphone into a Bluetooth keyboard to control another device but am not sure if I can resize the fonts with arrow keys moving the cursor around the menu.

Not sure I want one of those apps on my phones.

If a BT keyboard would work, I'd be better off with a BT keyboard. I used to have a Logitech one with my Chromebook but gave them away together.

I borrowed a wired Dell optical mouse and connected it with a USB-C OTG adapter to the Moto G Pure. It didn't register as being there. The notification drop-down said device attached was charging.

I looked for a way to activate use of a mouse via settings and the Accessibility settings didn't acknowledge it either under "switches."

The optical light on the mouse flashed but nothing happened if I rolled or clicked it.

For a few moments I did see a pointer on screen but it disappeared.

Most of the Logitech or other mouses I'm looking at online don't mention Android compatibility, only Windows, Mac, iOS, Chromebook occasionally.

The YouTube videos show Wireless or wired mouses starting right up and working with USB connection like they're plug 'n play.

I connected the mouse to my Moto Play and it didn't recognize the mouse either just like with the Moto Pure. Then I opened Google Drive and started a document. The mouse began to show up there and I was able to use it.

The cursor sometimes disappeared and reappeared and it was squirrely but I was able to use it to create the document. It pretty much did what I wanted it to do which was to be able to choose items on the menu not just work on the editing screen.

I can use Google voice to text and I can control the screen with touch, or I can use the mouse.

However have to be careful what I tell the mouse to do because I deleted a document without intending to.

Left click seems to pull up the editing menu with cut paste etc. Right click seems to do the same thing except when I'm down on the keypad. Then it seems to pull up the keypad menu.

The scroll wheel scrolls and it clicks on items.

So the experiment worked, I can use a mouse to help with cumbersome items that touch or voice cannot do easily with a particular device.

I may now proceed to buy a wireless mouse with a dongle and see if that's easier to use than one with a wire.

For my purposes it's probably easier to use a mouse for the items I need then to have a Bluetooth keyboard when I only type with two thumbs now because of hand disabilities. I can still roll a mouse around. I can't type on a regular computer keyboard anymore although I used to type for hours a day.

I hope this thread may have helped somebody who is thinking about using a mouse with their cell phone.

The phone needs to be one that is OTG capable because whether or not it's a wireless Bluetooth mouse or a mouse that has a wire that plugs in directly, it still needs to plug into the USB port with a dongle.

I unplugged the mouse from the Moto Pure and returned after lunch. Once again it didn't acknowledge the mouse even after restarting with it connected.

I tried it on a Moto e6 and it showed up but was erratic then disappeared.

I plugged it into an LG Stylo 3 and it said "Mouse Connected." Immediately followed by "Mouse Disconnected." It shows a mouse symbol next to the WiFi symbol on the notification bar. It works on the Stylo.

I plugged the mouse into an LG Solo and like with the LG Stylo 3, it immediately recognized the mouse and shows a mouse symbol on the notification bar by the WiFi symbol.

It must depend on the manufacurer and so far the LGs have it over Moto.

The mouse works with an LG Fiesta 2 just like with the other two LGs. Immediate recognition and the mouse icon appears next to the Wifi symbol on the notification bar.

The Logitech wireless mouse arrived today. It's a model M325 M-R0039. I've had one like it before when I had a Chromebook.

I plugged the dongle in to the Moto G Pure and booted it. It recognized it on the notification panel as a physical keyboard. Until I set it up so that the virtual keypad remained on screen while the mouse is plugged in, all I had was the mouse in charge.

It seems much more compatible with the Pure than the wired Dell mouse.

I guess the experiment is complete.

I tried the Dell wired mouse with my Fire 7 tablet and it never did much, didn't show the cursor, but it was only a brief test. It said on the notification panel that the item connected by USB was charging.

I prefer wireless for cell connection because it doesn't have a cord trailing all over.
