Tracfone tells me I may lose the number

I got this scary email from Tracfone today (screenshot below). The balance shows up correctly on the web site though, and it shows adequate service days. What should I do?

I have some rewards points in that account so I could add another month of service with the points. But I had only recently added service using rewards points, and I still got this scary email, so I'm worried I'll just be wasting more points.

I don't want to contact Tracfone because who knows what they'll mess up. What should I do? Thank you for all suggestions and help!

The email says: "STATUS: PAST DUE!
act now to keep your number
Buy a plan today to reactivate your service
You’ll lose your phone number if you don’t purchase a new service plan. But don’t worry! We’ve made it easy to choose a plan that meets your needs. "

I would ignore the email if your balance shows correctly online. I think hpham said recently that deactivated lines have 60 days to renew before losing their number. And your line is still active. I would just make sure it stays active and you'll be fine.

I think TF email system is running amuck. The wording of the email says to "reactivate” your line, implying the line involved is not currently active. If your phones are still working, and the email doesn't specify any particular line, it could be an old line or NOT EVEN YOUR LINE. A few days ago I got an email from Straight Talk about an automated payment just made to credit card number 7002. I have never had Straight Talk service, never had a phone number ending with 1138 and don't have a credit card ending with number 7002.

    BTW: their math is atrocious.

The reference in the message to "reactivate" some line is vague, and is the tipoff that it isn't connected to anything of substance as far as you're concerned. Plus there is no direct reference in the message to any number, thus the message's validity and credibility is all but lost. (Is that blacked-out part at the top your name or a valid current TF phone number of yours?)

Thanks for the replies, jet1000, hpham, whacker! Yes, that's my email address that I blanked out, not a Tracfone number, so it must be Tracfone's usual incompetence.

Meanwhile, I got this usual PM from AlexTrac, where I have no way of knowing what he means to convey:

"Hello, sillyette. This is Alex from TracFone Wireless. We read your post and we value your patronage. As far as we are concerned, this is something we do not want to happen.

Please be informed that once your service is not active, your TracFone number will be deactivated immediately and there might be a tendency that you'll lose your number after 30-60 days.

To further assist you, please contact us via this chat link ........"

So is he saying that the email is accurate? Or that it is inaccurate? Who knows!

The content of the email might or might not be accurate, but the thing is that the email might not be intended for YOU. It's like those spam calls to your phone that say "Warning! Your auto warranty is about to run out". If you didn't buy warranty for your car, obviously those messages don't matter to you.

I think that Alex is confirming what I said, that you're not in danger of losing your number until the service is inactive. Since you confirmed the service is active, you have no concern.
