Boost: HowTo ensure you get AT&T service

Check your phone is unlocked and the IMEI is whitelisted for AT&T service

    https://www.att.com/buy/byod/identify?isByod=true

Order the plan you want from the website - note only the TMO plans can use eSIMs

    e.g. $15 5GB 3-mo trial with a fresh email from
    https://deals.boostmobile.com/myprom...plan-quarterly

Enter 49619 as the service zip (no TMO there)

Either wait for the SIM to arrive and check it is Black with ICCID starting 89014

Or call around your local Boost stores and check they'll sell you one for $10

Then when you're ready, login and Activate, follow the prompts.

If you have spare SIMs, track the Expiration date, mine are all 09/2024

Apparently so long as the email changes you can just keep doing a new trial every 90 days so long as you don't care about the phone#

Dunno about trying to port out and back in quickly, if you try please report back here.

another option(although i don't know which network) 90 days with more data may be from Kroger supermarkets. my local King Soopers stores have all been selling the 15GB/month for 90 days starter kits for $14.99(normally $ 44.99 but i have never seen them not discounted)

ignore this, i am not sure what i was thinking the Krogers/King Soopers cards are only 5GB/month for 90 days not the 15GB i was thinking they were. so its another way to possibly get the same deal

I would not buy any Boost SIM unless I was able to check the ICCID first.

Or with a good return policy like Wally's, open it right at the CS desk.

Only the ATT ones have value, the TMO ones are free when you initiate on the website.

Found a Boost store happy to sell me a bunch, no questions asked, simply acknowledged that ATT service is the better choice in the rural areas

How much did you pay for the AT&T SIM at store?
I have AT&T eSIM and plan to switch to pSIM, if I can't find AT&T pSIM locally, last thing I want to do is to contact Boost CS to ship pSIM.

    Updates

A rep claimed that if a TMO SIM is what is sent out, you cannot change the network assigned by the system, cannot activate on an ATT SIM. This is FALSE, but do not argue, just ignore and use the automated Activation process with your ATT SIM and it will work.

If you already have the SIM you want to use, you can Activate right away after paying for the plan, no need to wait for the SIM to arrive.

You will not be able to port in to an existing line after Activation.

No problem if you want to test with a new # , then when you want to port later, just start up a new account with a new email.

Name / address CC# can be the same no problem, can start a new 3-mo trial too, only the email must be new.

Ask for the Porting info form in chat, otherwise it is too easy for them to fill out the fields wrong.

A ported number starts billing at activation. A new number starts 2 days after you order, might be before you get the SIM.

If a purchased Plan does not get Activated, they are happy to give a full refund of the initial $15 payment.

    Outstanding questions to research:

Can you keep doing multiple trials with the same ported number?

Also, which normal AT&T / MVNO plans are cheaper / better value than $15 for UTT and 5GB?

    Addon data is

    - 1GB for $5

    - 5GB for $15

but does not roll over at all.

    Throttled data speeds?

    Fast data priority?

    Hotspotting?

Not sure if you are asking about Boost AT&T or looking for other options. On Boost, my son has the $15/month 5GB plan, and it is a hard stop when he runs out of data. We did buy an extra 1GB last month for $5. There was no way to track the usage of that add on, but it did carry from the end of one month until the beginning of the next month when it was depleted. It was used before the monthly plan, so we felt like we got the full value out of it. I was just bummed that I couldn't use Boost coin to pay for it.

The AT&T card came with the iPhone 12. Luckily, that was the carrier we wanted.

Yes that side is the focus of this thread, I'm gathering information and hoping it helps others.

The main point is, it is in practice possible to get the network you want, despite Boost's efforts to deny that right.

I am not looking for info on other services in tbis thread

but if you have suggestions that match these parameters

that would be most welcome, posted there

generally you can port from boost to boost. for example this is the process used in stores to move a line from one family plan account to another. a port is initiated just as if the number was on a different carrier using the boost account number and transfer PIN(requested from support)

i have not tested this but it may work successfully if at the end of a 90 discount period you attempted to port the number to another new activation on the same or similar plan with first 90 day discount. i would just be prepared with a plan B in case it does not work for some reason, but i believe it would.

The saving grace so far, it seems if you are not successful getting what you want and the service does not ever physically activate, they will refund the initial order $15+

Wut? I doubt it, and not what I was talking about.

This thread is about the 3-month $15 promo for the 5GB plan.

Please do not discuss other topics here, I want to keep the thread clean.

You are required to front the $15 in order to initiate your account, then they send out the SIM.

If for whatever reason you choose not to activate the SIM then you are due a refund.

I'm talking days here, not weeks much less months.

The boost resellers near me wouldn’t sell an at&t SIM card on its own. I ended up having to get through eBay.

Sent from my iPhone using HoFo
