I have a Tracfone branded phone which I wanted to activate. I had lost the original sim, so I bought a BYOD sim and put it in. I called Trac support, told them about the BYOD sim, they made the changes and activated the phone. My question is, will this phone be able to be unlocked after 60 days, even though it has a BYOD sim?

Should be yes but nothing is certain.

At Day 61, give it a try, may also unlock automatically.

If not go to the TF unlock website follow the steps

If still not there is a dedicated Support number for the "unlocking team"

With a BYOD Verizon sim, the phone *should* unlock because it should fulfill the requirements for the new unlocking policy. But of course, TF is the king of YMMV, so you'll probably have to call the unlocking department when the time comes.

Log into your TF account-->Manage Lines-->select that phone number-->select DEVICE. If it shows a picture of that phone make/model and the IMEI number, then it's treated as a normal TF-branded phone and is eligible for unlocking. If it shows "Unknown Device" and the SIM number, then it's treated as a BYOP phone and is not eligible for unlocking.

I started no longer seeing the "picture" weeks (months?) ago and I thought there was discussion on here by others who also lost seeing the pic of their phone. So, I no longer think seeing a picture is definitive.

But, I don't see "Unknown Device" and I see IMEI instead of the SIM number. I think that's what many now see if they have adevice that TF thinks is "theirs," rather than a BYOD handset.

You're right. I forgot that TF is not showing a picture of the device now, whether it's a permanent or temporary change. But I think seeing the IMEI instead of the SIM number is still a reliable indicator.

People have surmised that, but I don't know there's really been any proof of that. Others have speculated that the answers are provided by a rotating set of reps who copy and paste certain pre-written answers in response. I have received responses from Alex that were signed by someone else other than Alex so I tend to believe that a rotating group of unknowledgeable reps that have been tasked with responding by TF.

A well-functioning AI would actually be much more useful than Alex
