    a51 issue with usb port

i have the a51 and for some reason today i can't get the usb port connected to the pc for anything but charging and that is slow. i use a magnet type connection so the port is not getting unplugged sll the time. yester day it worked perfect and today i connect the phone to the pc and nothing. and in developer mode it seems to lost the usb image setting.

i tired the wifes phone with the same cords and that phone works good. so it is this phone. i just did a reset but keep data and that failed. i do not want to just do a hard reset unless it is really needed. it takes hours to get my apps back and in order and my cameras back in the phone.

if this is an a51 issues that i finally found what is a good phone for metro pcs? i prefer not to spend tons of $$$ for one as i do not make lots of calls but i do lots of photos for the repairs i do for folks so they can see what i found wrong and how i fixed it.

i have another phone but i do not like that one it is hard to get the photos on the pc.

anyway if anyone happens to know if all of a sudden i found a fault in the a51 and the usb port? if i can use bluetooth i can do that but how would i set that up? thanks

The first suggestion would be to try a different cable (preferably a new one) to see if that resolves the issue.
    Just another day in paradise.....

i did try the oem cable, that cable is the plug in type and when new i changed over to the magnet type the are quick connect type. and nothing worked. so get this i did a reset and save data and now the phone will not even turn off with the on off button. it charges with both the oem cable and the magnet cables. so now i have to figure out why it is not turning off with the off button.

i'm starting to think it has failed. and look for another phone. so now if today i can't get the phone to work as it should i will see if anyone know what phone are now out and better and metro pcs uses them. i expect metro pcs will hook up to any phone but i get a free number thru the wife's account and i may be limited to phone models.

i connected the nokia phone to the pc with the very same cable and the pc sees this phone. i did a reset now 2 times and the a51 and now will not turn off with the side button nor will the pc see it. outside of doing a complete reset does anyone have some ideas what may be the issue here? it is possible the phone is just failing that happens and this is the first signs of that.

ok i got the thing to power off. it seems the reset turned off the power button. i do not have the power icon at the top of the slide down menu and i was able to use the vol dn and power button but i like just using the power button. so i had to go into setting and reset that, now it seems to be working fine but still not usb to the pc. i have it set in the developer section and it is still holding the transferring images but not showing in file explorer when i plug it into the pc so lets get that going? it should not be the pc becasue the pc can see other phones when connected the same way. thanks

ok it seems per the research i may have to do a factory reset. so it is in factory reset now and the very first thing i will try is the usb connections. if that fails the phone goes to the trash and i will go to nokia site and see if i can figure out the photos transfer for that phone.

i did di a samsung data backup but money tells me i may get some apps back and such but my cameras will not come back and they take hours to reinstall. i will stop back soon and let you know if the factory reset worked for the usb at least

ok just did a complete factory reset and it still fails. using the same cord the nokia and the wifes phone connect to this pc. so something happened. the phone is trash. so now to get another phone. it does not even charge fast with either cords so something failed. what might be a good phone? one that when i connect it to the pc will show the photos as photos! that is 100% what have to have. i don't even care if the phone calls as i have only made 5 phone calls with a cell phone if 20 years. i have it for emergency calls only but i do hundreds' of photos for things i repair for people and i need that to work every single time.

if i can get the nokia photos to show actual photos when i connect it to the pc i would just use that one but when i connect it i get icons and not photos. but if i copy those icons to a folder on the pc then i get photos. i have tried just about everything to get that to work and even the nokia forums can't help. so that phone sets on the shelf.

I recommend using Google Photos with any recent Android, forget about wires, never mind even connecting to the PC, integrated with SMS and email all right on your phone.

You can open Photos if you want though, the account keeps everything in sync.

Archive old ones using the PC's hard drive, keep your Photos account for the current stuff only and you never need to pay Google for storage.

your all missing the point i do lots of repairs for people and i document them then i put them on the pc so i can send the issues and repairs to them. i do not use the phone for a phone i made less than 20 phone calls in 20 years with a cell phone. i have to be able to plug the phone in SEE THE PHOTOS and then copy them to the correct folders on my pc. don't come back and tell me how you do it. what i need is a fix. i know all about google and there photos every android phone uses google and there photos and google puts those photos back on your phone or a new phone automatically or if you reset it so don't tell me what i should do, help me fix what i need to do

OK, we are all trying to offer advice but we don't have direct access to the phone and there is no one-answer-fits-all.

i tried that month ago and it is way harder to do than i want. it is easier to use the nokiax100 and copy all the photos to a folder and sort them than do google.

When the phone is connected to the PC, have you checked the device manager to see if the phone is listed, should be under portable devices.
