Motorola BYOP to Straight Talk Verizon Network

I have searched and can't find answers to my issue.

I am a current Straight Talk customer with a Moto G6 on their Verizon network. It's time for a new phone but I don't want a straight talk phone. I am going to purchase a new unlocked phone from a retail store such as Best Buy. So this will be a BYOP deal.

I am seriously considering the MOTO G POWER 5G 2023 (XT2311-4) Works on all major carriers GSM/CDMA/4GLTE/5G

However if I search the BYOP list at Straight Talk it is extremely limited and full of older models. If you go to the page where you can check to see if your phone is compatible it asks for an IMEI number. I don't have an IMEI as I don't have the phone yet. If you call them they can't tell you without an IMEI number. I found a picture of a box at ebay showing an IMEI for this model and ran it through their phone checker. The result showed that this phone is compatible with Straight Talk....but didn't say which network. I want to stay with the Verizon Sim in my area.

Is anyone currently using this phone on Straight Talks VERIZON network? The phone is capable of connecting to Verizon and Verizon owns Straight Talk, so why can't it be used on the Straight Talk Verizon network?

It's frustrating because they did the same thing with my G6. They made me purchase an AT&T Sim telling me it wouldn't work with a Verizon Sim, and within six months they offered me a free Month's service to switch to Verizon which is what I wanted to begin with!

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would buy the phone directly from Motorola. Swap the SIM from your old phone and see if it works. If not Motorola gives you the option to return it.

I have 2 Moto phones, Moto Edge 2022 and Moto G 5G 2022 working on Visible/Verizon the don't pass their IMEI checker but work fine.

The MOTO G POWER 5G will be just fine.
You didn't mention if your current G6 is ST branded? If so, make sure you get it unlocked if eligible before changing to the new phone. (Better resale or flexibility for future use.)
Verizon is the only show in town on ST so the network isn't an issue.
You should be able to just put the G6 sim in the power without issue but to be on the safe side spend a buck and pick up a byop sim and do the transfer from the G6. You're moving to 5G so fresh sim provisioning may be good on any of the flaky Tracfone brands.

    Thanks so far.
My current phone is NOT ST branded. Many years ago I bought a branded one but have since only purchased unlocked phones so I'm not stuck with any provider.

So far Verizon is not the only show in town. Some of the family ST (unlocked) phones are on AT&T. I have heard that it may be discontinued by ST in the next couple years though?

Am I correct that Straight Talk requires the phones IMEI when registering the phone to the SIM. So if I insert the IMEI when registering the new phone won't they tell me it's not compatible with the Verizon Sim ? [As a side note my wife has a Moto Power 2021 on TRACFONE. When we connected it last year we also had to use AT&T. It would not connect on Verizon. Same story as before......earlier this yearTracfone asked her to switch to VERIZON.]

I've read that ST is extremely limiting as to what phones can be used on their network. If you go to Motorola all the their phones work with ST GSM, but only a few more expensive phones say they work on CDMA. But all their phones work on the actual Verizon network. And all other MVNO's as well.

I've always thought GSM=AT&T and CDMA=Verizon. Does Verizon even use CDMA now? Maybe this is what is confusing me?

Motorola doesn't say what ST network the phones work on, they just say they work with ST GSM and not CDMA *UGH*

    Why use ST at all?

I don't see anything compelling about their plan offerings?

True. With a new 5G phone, the OP could get better plans and service (still on Verizon) from US Mobile.
