Brazil has a mixture of TDMA and CDMA with various carriers, like the USA. They are in the process of rolling out GSM-1800, which will make Brazil one of the few countries to have GSM-1800 but not GSM-900. There is also some iDEN service by a Nextel affiliate.

You may be able to roam there using AT&T, Cingular, Nextel or a GSM carrier. I think the GSM company (www.oi.com.br) has a prepaid offering "Oi Card" but my Portugese is not good enough to be sure. Some of the TDMA/CDMA carriers have prepaid but I'm not sure if their prepaids work over the entire country or just in the state where purchased.
