Your new toy: CingularMe.com (Setup email profile, block users, and block SMS)

Cingulars newest Data product to help make it more confusing: CingularME.com

    http://www.cingularme.com

Register for a username/password and get a new email address for your SMS and MMS messages:

SMS: [email protected] ([email protected] will also work)
MMS: [email protected] ([email protected] will also work)

Biggest news (?): Blocking people you don't want to get SMS email from

Once you login check the preferences: Message Options: Block Message Preferences

Now from what it looks like, you can block:
All SMS messages sent to you as email
All MMS messages sent to you as email
    Setup Allow/Block lists
Block messages sent from the cingularme.com website
Block [email protected] and 10digitNumber but allow [email protected]

Now that's what it says, and I know that sometimes when I was working with SMS settings, it would take 24 hours to go into effect. So far all I can block is:
    [email protected]

10digitNumber and [email protected] all seem to still be delivered to my handheld and I've turned on all the blocking settings (aside from adding mobile.mycingular.com to the blocked list, which I suppose I could do to take care of that problem)

But the thing we need to figure out is if we can block: 10digitNumber

That way, you just give out your [email protected] address to everyone, if someone gets too annoying, you add their email address to the blocked list and turn on all 10digitNumber "normal" SMS / Text messaging.

As soon as I get it to block 10digitNumber anyway

Well said. Cingular really needs to take a page from Sprint on this one. Have one, just one, unified account login tool that manages everything, voice, data, email, everything tied into the wireless account.

Nice to see the necessary features, but to juggle another login reminds me of the Sprint vs AT&T ads Sprint ran (where the AT&T rep had two heads)...

Judging by this, mobile numbers will be available for telemarketers soon. Makes me wonder if Cingular is expecting telemarketers to send messages to consumers and wasting their messages.

10digitNumber and [email protected] are totally separate accounts from these cingularme.com accounts. Therefore, whatever settings you apply on cingularME.com will not apply to the old 10digitNumber and [email protected]

    Unfortunately....

Its actually been illegal since 1991 for telemarketing cell phones by automatic dialer, which is what the majority of telemarketer companies use now days.

I'm sure one day it will happen, but not anytime soon. The common rumor is that the phonebook of wireless number being complied will be sold, but that is not the case, and you have to agree to have your number listed they wont just do it automatically without your consent

Maybe cingular will make it so that people who register for this site will not be able to recieve messages from mycingular.com

I haven't been able to get in either. I've been trying since I first saw the original posting early this morning.

for the people who seem to have problems getting in, try:

I have a conspiracy theory on that one.

SMS is one of the products aimed at the "youth market"

http://www.rucingular.com (check it out, I love the juke box pop up player)

And if you were using an "additional line" on a family talk plan, and you had to get your parents permission to get into the online account manager, you might use it less often, or not at all.

also people who have corporate accounts where their company pays the bills, they would never be allowed access to the online account manager

so setting it up so that all you have to have is the cell phone in your hands, makes it a lot easier for the "unauthorized users" to set it up
