Question about power from a car idiot.

I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Montero Limited and something about it has bugged me since I got it. When ever I turn the car off the cigarette lighter power shuts off too. Every other car I've owned has never done this. Is there any way to change this so that I will still have power there when the car is off?

It sounds like the circuit for the cirgarette lighter is on a relay. Bascially a relay is just a switch for power so you can use the powered items only if the on/off circuit is hot.

What you would need to do is run a cable off the battery to the cigarette lighter. The existing wire you will need to remove. Obviously there is alot of filler steps in there but that is the basic part of it. It should already be gounded so you won't have to worry about that part.
