Hey tech4stars,
Don't leave us hangin!Couple questions - was this an actual 8700t or was it an unlocked 8700c? If the former, what color is it? And give a better hint about the release date!
Thanks!
TM

Got to play with a 8700 on T-Mobilr last night... as reported the response time is much better than one might expect from EDGE. Sweet... they'll be out soon!

How do you figure that? I'm pretty sure TMo will have the 8700 by the end of Feb the latest.Originally Posted by tdumaine

So the six month exlusive to the provider that has it, is up in february? Damn, what kinda calender are you usin?Originally Posted by OJ330i
There's no telling when TMO will get the 8700. Cingular got the 7290 in Sept, 04 and had a 90 day exclusive on it. TMO finally picked it up at the end of April as a soft launch. They finally got it fully availble in May (about 8 months after launch). Then of course, they ran out quickly.
I hope they learned their lessons and actually do offer this device shortly after the 90 days are over and not wait an additional 5 months like they did on the 7290. Not quite sure why their hardware selection is so far behind.
Sounds awesome. Too bad I can't get a signal at work with Tmo or Cingular. I am stuck with my 7100i.
It's not a six month exlcusive it's 90 days (that's three months on my calander). Units can't ship until that 90 days is up, then they're repackaged into the T-Mobile kits, so I'd say they'll be available early May. Pricing is still unavailable.Originally Posted by tdumaine

It's my understanding and many others that the exclusive period is only 90 days. And since the 8700 launched in early Dec. Officially than that would put the 90 day period up in late Feb. Early Mar.Originally Posted by tdumaine
It was an unlocked Cingular unit. The combination of EDGE and the faster processor really made a difference... faster in fact than the EvDo unit I tried on Verizon.Originally Posted by anthonymoody
A few people at T-Mobile (VP and up) have the T-Mo 8700 but clients aren't getting it yet, even for testing. haven't seen it so don't know the color... I can ask.

Choose the 7290, and you will find the IM. It has a warning that it will not work in any other device than the 7290. However, I installed it on the 8700 without problems. I have not run the program because I am currently roaming in the UK and do not want any surprises when the bill comes.
