Please contuine discussion on the 8125/8100 here. Also, please keep off topic discussion of other devices to a minimum so we all dont have to sift through pages and pages of info thats not revelant to the device to find info that is.

With regards to release dates, no one will ever prove to anyone that the information they have is correct. Lets just take every post releated to a release date with a grain of salt and not argue about it. I will update the OP when I have an absolute conformation on either a release date and I will not post "released" until I have conformation that someone actually bought one and has it in their hand.

If you have a post on the old thread that you feel should be inclucded on the OP section "1st thread information" send me a PM with a link to the post and the title and I will update the post with the info. Please avoid reposting info from the 1st thread on this one as to aviod being redundant.

Its sad to see the old thread go but it needed to be done.

    enjoy your new thread

So as we stand, we are on a late Jan/Early-Mid Feb release. I'm debating on whether it is worth spending $400+ with a 2 year contract. Kinda steep if you ask me.

It's steep for a phone. It's on the cheaper side for Windows Mobile PDA devices. If there's only a $50 difference between 1yr and no contract (does no contract still get the rebate?) I'm buying it without a contract.

I thought I read 79 pages ago that it would be $350 for a 2 year contract?

Let me ask you guys a question, I want a PDA/Phone/Smartphone that sounds good and is comfortable to use as a phone without an earpiece and something that is easy to surf the web with & type some emails from my yahoo or gmail account. Maybe trade some stocks on Ameritrade.com with it or get some driving directions on Google Maps.

Thats all I need. Is it worth it to wait for the 8125 or would a Treo 650 suffice for my needs?

They look to be the same size except for the antenna right?

No. If you are buying a phone without a new contract or contract extension you will not get the rebate.

true you will only get the rebate if you get it with a contract...i just have a feeling that when the 8125 gets released the hermes will be released shortly after....if that is the case i would wait for that...

Pheenix: as for your question well if you can wait i would wait...the treo is not bad as for surfing the web...that is what i mainly use it for but somethimes it hangs and reboots as im surfing...but i will miss some of the 3rd party programs...

I'm dropping my 9100 for a n80 and a w810 (i want both ) and soon after will definately get a HTC Hermes as my PDA phone. I'll lug the PDA phone 1/2 the time and the other two when I'm travelling or something.

I was under the impression that the rebate was only if you signed up for a data plan? To be honest I would use this when I have access to Wifi and not on cingulars pay garbage. In that case it will be $399 +$18 upgrade +$24 tax + ?? Shipping. So about $442+ whatever shipping is. For an extra $100, you can have the 9100 and not sign up for any contract. So say you add the ETF, now you are up over $600 for this phone. Kinda steep if you ask me. I really am having second thoughts about this and may just grab the V3i when it comes down in price.

Not that anyone cares....at this point I might as well just wait for Hermes to come out. But wait, we are talking Cingular...it will probably be Feb 2007 before that comes out on their network :-(

Why does this keep happening to me.....I waited a long time for SE P800 and it never was released on a US carrier; then I obsessed about the MPX (MPX 300) which never saw the light of day....and now 8125 - this is really pissing me off....I guess I have to suck it up and shell out 800-900 for unlocked devices

I imagine that the Hermes is going to be quite a bit more than the price of the 8125 due the the larger MP of the camera, video camera on front for video phone calls and the 416 MHz processer (if the phone actually does have all these features). I can't see them bringing it in at the same price. The common guess is that the 8125 will be about $449 without a contract, if that is the case, I could see the Hermes coming in around $599 without a contract. They would just be shooting themselves in the foot pricing it the same as the 8125. Third party vendors will more than likely be even more expensive for the unit. Just my guess though.
