Question fake headsets (in uk..and other places)..how to distinguish it from real ones

read some articles on UK (like in year 2003) that most of the headsets sold in the retail stores are fake. won't work properly and only work within v.close distance (not what its stated as).
Anyone encountered fake headsets? is buying headsets from ebay safe anymore (like from US, hong kong, and other non uk places)?

    what do you think?

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/09...ear_swamps_uk/

and there's this other one at palowireless.com (membership required to view it..) ..but google showed a tad bit of the article. (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...G=Search&meta=) the first one there.. is what im referring to.

since i can't find much articles talking about it.. i guess buying from ebay is safe! yay?!

    Bluetooth fakes... you bet!

I got an H700 off ebay that I am sure is a fake. I first noticed it didn't work that well.. Then I looked at the little phone receiver shaped imprint on the power button and it looked rather large and not as crisp as the ones on the pictures I had seen.. so I went and compared it to one at a retail store and I noticed that the body was much rougher in finish than the real thing... there were many obvious mould joint marks the real thing didn't have. The Model # and serial # were in different order.

They sell fake Viagra.. hell they are even selling fake replacment parts for Boeing jets... and the center of all of this pirating is China for God's sake... knocking off Moto and other Bluetooth brands is a no-brainer...

WE sold them our technology and they are taking our jobs and all we get are lousy knockoffs!

This may be a big part of user dissatisfaction with this stuff.....

    Real or fake????

    hard to tell.

The devil's in the details... you should compare yours to a unit that is in offical Moto packaging here in the states... although there is no guarantee that the fakes won't get into the supply stream for Motorola...

after just getting the wrong item(sony flash attachment) sent from hk and no response from seller, it's probably better to steer clear from ebay. it's becoming a place of all fake stuff. you can't buy mem cards on there anymore almost all is fake.
