    My Experience with Missing Calls

    Hi everyone,

    I have been following this thread for some time already. I have a Qtek 8500 with the same ROM and Radio versions as people who are experiencing the missing calls issue. Yet I am not having any issues whatsoever, and I have been testing this everyday for almost 3 weeks already. It should be noted that I live in Brazil, which uses the same frequency as the European countries, that is, 900/1800. Recently I went to Chile, which uses 1900, and I also did not experience this issue. My conclusion is that IF there is a link between the frequency and the missing calls issue (and I am not saying that this is definitely the case), then the frequency causing this problem is probably the 850 frequency. Not sure of anything, just trying to share my experience and thoughts.
    On a side note, I have noticed that the US branch of expansys.com (which is mobileplanet.com) has stopped selling the Qtek 8500. I called them to ask why and I was told that there were a lot of problems with this phone in the US market. So apparently there are some moves in response to what has happened.

    Alan (still trying to add Portuguese T9 to the Qtek 8500...)

    Just curious, but has anyone tried flashing to either the Imate and Dopod ROm and then flashing back to Qtek v1.02.252.1 or v1.02.252.2? Just wondering if maybe the original versions shipped may have been corrupted...

    But then again, I'm having a hell of a time locating any of the Qtek ROMs....
    (and YES I did contact the place I got it, but it's always a little dicey when you import a phone....)

    I don't seem to have the missing calls problem. I left my phone on overnight two days in a row and when I called it in morning, it rang fine. I am currently running ROM v1.02.252.1 with Radio v4.1.13.17_02.32.31.

    HTC have stated that the issue is known and only affects North American users, that users outside that region are unlikely to be affected, and that they will be producing a new version of the phone specifically for that region. They don't say they are definately working on a new ROM.
    That says to me it's a hardware issue with 850MHz, otherwise why go to the expense of releasing new hardware if a firmware patch would do? Of course every cloud has a silver lining, which means we've nothing to worry about this side of the pond. I have had no problems so far.

    I'd be interested in where this statement from HTC is located? And if it is a hardware issue, then how is it that North American Dopod S300 users are not experiencing it? They're all the same Star Treks as far as I know.

    I believe I have found a band-aid solution to the missed call problem. Check out my post here.

    Very strange. My roommate has a qtek 8500 and is also on tmobile and he hasnt had missed calls. His phone was purchased from MMB and mine was from Smart Mobile Gadgets. Could it be a hardware issue? Could some phones have been a bad batch?

    Last nite the phone was unplugged and unused for 15 hrs and it rang when the phone was called

    I live in toronto and I have the missed call problem. I have been in louisville kentucky for the last two days and I noticed something I found a little weird. My phone will lock onto t-mobile and my blackberry 8700 will lock onto cingular. They have been like this for most of the time I have been here. Reception is great with both devices,though.

    I still believe it is a problem with how the phone handles switching bands, but that is just a gut feeling.

    I'm thinking the same thing, which is why I don't have the problem. I've had my 8500 for 2 weeks yesterday, with no surpise VM's etc. There is NO GSM1900 coverage within 30 miles in any direction, so it never switches from one band to another.

    How do you find out whether your area has only 850 or 1900 or both?

    PS: Looks like a temporary "Band aid" may have been found for this issue. See separate thread about it.

    Thumbs up iMate ROM working on Qtek 8500

    I am happy to report that I have CID unlocked my phone using the service from IMEI-Check and have been functioning perfectly for 3 days using the iMate SmartFlip ROM.

    Instructions here:

    Application unlock your phone using the HTC signed Registry Editor. (RegeditSTG - Google it) Copy this to your phone directly and run it on the phone. TChange the key values noted below.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1001 = 2 -->Change the value data from 2 to 1
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1005 = 16 --> Change the value data from 16 to 40
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1017 = 128 --> Change the value data from 128 to 144

    CID (Carrier ID) unlock your phone. If you bought the Qtek like me, your phone will only accept Qtek ROMs. By purchasing the CID unlock code from http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ I unlocked my phone in about a minute, which allows me to install any ROM (Qtek, DoPod, iMate, etc)

    Download and run the imate SmartFlip ROM from ftp://ftp.clubimate.com i-mate_Smartflip_WWE_1.2.301.2_ship.zip (slow FTP site, took about 25 mins to DL)

    Important to note that all your config/data will be erased from the phone so back that up. It will not touch anything on the storage card of course.

    One thing to note is that the first time you CID unlock your phone it will throw the phone into bootloader mode. You’ll need to run it a second time (immediately after the first time) to actually unlock it. It’s in the FAQ, but still worried me when I did it. Worked like a champ though. I had the unlock code seconds after my PayPal transaction went through.

    Registry keys to application unlock your phone:

    That should do it.. I am happy to say I’ve missed no calls for 3 days now, no texts, nothing. Phone is awesome, and working as it should have been in the first place.

    Good luck everyone!

    -Stork

    Anyone have an update on possibly posting the ridiculous $40 version for the peasants?

    Any word on when this will be available as a free tool?

    Keeping it alive...

    *BUMP*

    Just wanted to keep attention to this issue alive. Even though there is a workaround, we're still not out of the woods completely yet.

    Anyone got any up-to-date information on Zone-MR's free CID tool in development?
