Hi all. I'm getting the new T-Mobile 5G hotspot box to replace an old ZTE 4G LTE device. Can I use the same SIM card in the ZTE or do I have to go to the store and get a completely new SIM card from T-Mo for the 5G box?

How old is the prior SIM card? If more than 5 years, you would be better off with a newer SIM card even if it works with the old SIM. Older SIM cards may not have full access to the newer networks/bands.

Thanks for the quick reply! I got the ZTE box/SIM card in November 1995. It still works pretty well -- battery still lasts a full day -- but also itching to get on the 5G bandwagon for my mobile wifi.

That old SIM card will not be compatible with the newer 5G networks, so in that case you will want a newer SIM card, unless you want the slower data speeds on 4G or possibly 3G in select markets. I don't know if T-Mobile has killed their 3G networks in the US yet.

Whoops, 1995? I meant *2015*. Still, it's old. Thanks again for the 411.
